Double vision

As I cross over, from Arkansas to Alabama, I crank up "Sweet Home Alabama" by Lynyrd Skynyrd. With the windows rolled down, my left arm uncontrollably flings out the window into the breeze. I gain control, returning to my childhood, and begin guiding my arm like a plane wing soaring up and down in the air. I am singing, maybe shouting, the words for the whole world to hear - "Sweet Home Alabama. Where the skies are so blue. Sweet Home Alabama. Lord, I'm coming home to you." A huge, almost painful smile compliments my fast-beating heart. I pull off the highway and grab my camera and tripod. As I am setting up the shot, folks driving past are honking and waving at me. Oh, this is going to be a FUN month - Sweet Home Alabama.

I look beyond the huge "Welcome to Sweet Home Alabama" signs and spot a “marble” of an invitation. I don't know about you, but I much prefer the marble versus the green. As I am about to begin a new chapter in my travels, I Google and find out only the following. These marble monument beauties were strategically placed at various Stateline highways and roads in 1942. The Alabama Adventure BEGINS!
