More than 50 percent of all maple syrup, in the United States, comes out of Vermont.   How much you might ask?  How about 3.1 million gallons each year! There are over 3,000 sugarhouses in this small state. A step through New England Maple Museum offers a historical journey of this sticky, delicious delight.
The history of maple syrup begins with the Native Indians.  This small museum is packed with the complete history, exhibits and of course, a tasty gift shop.

It all began by two guys signing up for an ice cream correspondence course for five dollars.  They began selling their ice cream out of a renovated gas station.  Today it is available in 33 countries around the globe!  Welcome to Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream.

Behind the ice cream factory is a graveyard!  Flavors that have bitten the dust (retired) will always be remembered with granite tombstones.

Apples are the State Fruit and State Pie!  A stop at one of the many Vermont apple orchards is a must. Our stop is at a four generation Vermont farm, Hackett's Orchard, growing over 47 varities of apples.  Vermont's apples are full of flavor and crunch from long, warm summer days, abundant rainfall and rich soil.  The experience sitting at a red picnic table with a variety bag of Vermont apples, a warm apple cider donut, and an apple cider slushie is a mouthwaterimg extravaganza!
